Areas of Specialty

Cardiac Electrophysiology

Electrophysiology is the study of electrical activity in the heart (how the heart beats). Cardiac electrophysiologists rely on a patient’s medical history and the results of diagnostic procedures to detect heart arrhythmias. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, we determine the risk posed by the heart rhythm abnormality and recommend treatment. You should see an electrophysiologist if you:

  • Have an abnormal heart rhythm
  • Need cardiac ablation, a procedure that creates scar tissue in order to block erratic cardiac conduction
  • Experience loss of consciousness (Syncope), or dizziness, or feel you are about to "black out" (Presyncope)
  • Have a risk of sudden cardiac death
  • Would benefit from a pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD)
